Plus Some Other Goodies

A while back I wrote about discovering needs in previously thought to be complete team sets.  Captain Canuck over at Waxaholic almost immediately commented that he had the card needed to put the period on '90 Fleer.   Here it is again, this time the back:

1990 Fleer #642

I really appreciate the simple straight forwardness of this card.  Kelly Mann is only a blip in my memory which maybe explains how I missed it.  I'm glad to get my hands on it, thanks Brian!

Next Dave dropped a note saying that he had one of the '93 Upper Deck Chippers that I needed (Jeff sent the other.)

1993 Upper Deck #24

Now I'm just down to the Oliva #426.  But wait, Dave sent way more than just the one card:

2013 Topps #344

2013 Topps Update U255

These two cards finished off the '13 Topps team sets.  Theoretically I still need a bunch of short print variations but at this point I'm kinda ambivalent about those.

Next Dave sent most of the '84 Donruss team set,

including these:

1984 Donruss 542 & 589

This is my first time seeing this set so I had to look up its details.  I can guarantee that had I put it set together on my own, that Ramirez error card would have been missed.  I'm conflicted about the Jacoby.  I'm inclined to think of it as an Indians card but it's hard to deny that Atlanta cap.

Dave also sent EVERY card off my '92 Stadium Club wantlist!   My favorite of the bunch #478:

Last but definitely not least, Dave sent these beauties:

1971 Topps 30, 88 & 587

Look at that sweet Niekro!!  The more I see these cards the more I love them.  I definitely want to put together this set.  There are a couple of pricey cards (I'm looking at you Hank) that will be tough with my budget but I'm up for the challenge.

Thanks again Brian and Dave!!

Vintage Braves

I haven't been posting too often here but I've been lurking around comment sections making trades.  I recently traded with Charlie at Lifetime Topps Project and Mark of My Best Friend Collects Chipper Jones.  Both took huge chunks out of my wantlist.  Additionally they sent extra cards that I just have to show off here.  I haven't much ventured into the realm of vintage cards.  (For me that's anything pre-1981.)  So I was pretty pumped to receive these.  Lets have a look, going back chronologically.  These first cards are from Mark:

1972 Topps #74 and #172

My experience with this set is limited to the '72 mini inserts in the 2013 Topps flagship.

1971 Topps #52 and #81

I've read a lot about the '71 cards on the blogosphere but I've never held any in my hands.  Love them.

1969 Topps #489

Very cool!

And from Charlie:

1965 #407

I only have one other Milwaukee card so this is a very very cool addition to the collection.

These cards almost make me want to abandon the quest for endless parallels.  I'll always put together the most recent Topps base team set but maybe next year I'll take shot at finishing some of the older sets.  For now that means '80s and '90s but I'll eventually make it further back.  These cards represent a pretty good start.  Charlie and Mark, thank you so much!

I'm eager to move all non-Braves cards out of my apartment so I'm open to any and all trades.  Hit me up!

More 80s Goodness

In exchange for a stack of '13 Series 2, Bert over at Swing and a Pop-up sent a ton of cards off my wantlist.  If you aren't trading with him, you should be!!  There's way too much to show everything but here are the highlights of all the awesomeness.

The above Murph is the last card I needed for the '86 Topps set.  Glad to have that one in the books!!

This '87 Kmart #29 wasn't on my list, but it totally brought back childhood memories.  I'm sure I have another one of these in a box somewhere in my parent's attic.

'81 Topps #675
The scan doesn't do this one justice.  Just look at that young Bobby Cox!!

Lastly, the Baseball Heroes insert set from '91 Upper Deck.  Somehow it went right over my head that Aaron was featured in this set.   I didn't have any of these and I think there are a few more out there to complete the set.

Bert, thanks again for the awesome trade!!

Vintage (for me) Awesomeness

I recently sent Bert at Swing and A Pop-Up some cards off his '13 Topps want list.  In return he sent these three cards off my list:

'86 Topps #539
'91 Upper Deck #55
'93 Topps #410

I thought that the Hubbard was last card that I needed for the '86 team set.  Then I realized that there is a Dale Murphy All Star card #705...that's ok because I'm still going after the '86 Traded set.  The '93 All Star card completes my '93 Team set!!  Also, I don't know how I've made it so long without that Chipper Rookie card.

Speaking of Murphy, Bert also sent these:

'84 Topps #133
'80 Topps #274
'84 Topps Glossy All-Star #19
'86 Topps Glossy All-Star #18

But wait, Bert sent a lot more!

Whoa, cards from my birth year!!
'81 Topps 20, 44, 64, 87, 108, 247

'83 Topps Traded 69T

Wait, I had no clue that the Braves once had a minor league affiliate here in Savannah.  Presently the Savannah Sand Gnats are the "A" affiliate of the NY Mets.  I actually snagged a seasonal job with the team this year, so I'm getting a bit familiar with the Mets' potential future.

'76 Topps #306

Now we've stepped into a era where both players and cards are starting to be unfamiliar.

Bert sent many more cards including the bulk of the '85 Topps team set.  I'll have to update my want list to reflect some new sets that to collect.  Thank you so much for the trade Bert!!!
